We propose painting the beach logs along Vancouver’s English Bay in a bright rainbow pattern.
Second Beach is a favourite destination for residents and visitors to Vancouver due to its easy accessibility and stunning views. The most popular of all English Bay beaches, Second Beach attracts visitors from far and wide to its shore, especially during the summertime fireworks displays and Pride Parade activities.
To celebrate this urban beach we would like to paint the beach logs in rainbow colours using a temporary, biodegradable paint. The natural pigments would fade over time, returning the beach to its previous ‘natural’ state.
The coloured logs would reclaim the viewer’s gaze from the horizon, altering the visitor’s orientation and beach experience. Suddenly the beach spectacle is not the view itself, but the shoreline rainbow.
